I heard the VX220 was a little more practical with space and all.

If I get another car it'll be purely an autox car and good weather/summer car. Most of the Miatas I have seen are in the 110 - 120k miles range, any known post 100k problems?

VX220 a little more practical because it has a physically larger body put on it. the chassis is the same.

yeah at 100K miles about 1/2 the life expectancy of the engine is used up

at 100K the engine is just broken in

Rick speaketh the truth.
The Alfa will be a very high maintenance car.

If you can afford an NB chassis Miata, I'd go with that.

Having driven both (and an NB routinely), I'm hooked. h:

What is this NB chassis you speak of?

I am looking to spend less than $3k, so anything early 90s is what I can afford.

NB = 99+ Miata

NA = 90-97 Miata

If you can try to get a 92-93 Miata. 90-91's have a small nose crankshaft and after time the nose begins to break because of the design of the bolt and woodruff key. There are ways permanent and temporary ways to fix it but if you want a worry free get a 92-93. The crankshafts were replaced with a big nose.
