I'm A+ certified, don't wanna try for any other certification yet because frankly they're too damn involved.
The class I took for it was in college, so I can't really say much of opinion because my teacher was awesome.

classes are expensive. if you can really afford them, take em. you learn ALOT in a week. but if you cant afford, just buy the books and read. that's how i got CCNA, and it's how i'm currently workin on MCSE

Agree, classes ARE expensive.
The best, inexpensive way, is to do as Joe said, buy the books, study hard, then take the tests. They actually are beneficial in the long run, especially with how this market is.

I took the A+ cert course my senior year in HS. Well, the hardware part of it at least. I graduated half a year early and missed the networking section so I ended up not taking the test. The practice tests were hard as fawk anyway.
