certifications in MCSE etc...
the classes are a waste of money unless you don't have to pay for them out of your own pocket.
I'm MCSE in NT and I did it all in about 3months using self study books.
Never touched NT until then. Actually I never even installed NT and I passed all my tests.
My point, the tests are jokes and just because you get certified don't expect to find a network admin job. No one is going to give you thata job just because you passed a few easy ass tests.
You might end up in help desk if you get lucky.

As for the Cisco Certification, good luck with that. I'd strongly recommend a Cisco class & knowing the OSI model inside and out. On top of that, you have to renew your Cisco cert. every three years.

well no shit. but I passed the NT server and enterprise tests in 10mins each.
Have you taken them? I did study my ass off for the tests, but that does't mean the tests were that difficult. It's literally the minmum you should know, not how much you really know type of test.

depends what you want to do.
i see certification as a way to prove that you are able to learn and finish something.
at a real job though, they teach you everything you need to know on the spot.
it's nice to have exposure to the application though classes, but you'll be lucky to use 25% of everything you just learned.

h:if you turn your 30 min time with the recruiter into a skills showcase, you're good to go.
i had 3 interviews, brought a neat portfolio of work ... got 3 offers.
