Only problem is that SSR doesn't make em in the right bolt pattern.

How about the Competitions, then?

Now those are nice wheels. h:

The 10AE Miata has polished versions of the stock wheels so I'd want something with a bit of a bright finish to keep the same look.

Hey those are real bolt heads. It's a 3-piece wheel. So is the chop that I did.
h: I stand corrected, then.

I think the "satin finish" (pic above) with a polished lip is perfect.
The black finish is too dark for your car's color, IMO.

I would like to see a design like the SSR Professor SP1 in a one-piece fitment...without the bolts around the rim. The broad spokes are a strong design feature; without the bolt heads, the lip would appear deeper and IMO the wheel design would look cleaner. :dunno:

Such a wheel does exist: the SSR GT2.

The thing is, the lip on the Professor is bigger than the GT2 because the spokes are totally separate from the rim. The center section of the Professor is smaller in diameter than the spokes of a comparably-sized GT2. The GT2 also isn't available in a satin finish, just regular silver.

The main thing though, is that the 3-piece look gives the impression of a smaller wheel. The '04 Mazdaspeed Miata has 17" wheels on it which I think look just a bit too big, and that look is made more noticeable by the fact that the spokes are totally even with the rim. The more differentiation between rim and spokes there is, the better the 17" wheels flow with the car, imho.

For '05 Mazda changed the MSM wheels to a more 3D look and they don't seem quite as oversized.

I see what ya mean. And yes, 17" rims are too big for a Miata. h:

I think the broad spokes on the SSR GT2 give it visual impact that other wheels with tapered spokes lack.

In a 16" size with a polished lip, the SSR GT2 would look best IMO..

Well I think the '05 MSM wheels manage to look about the right size.

The SSR GT2 doesn't come in 16", doesn't come in a satin finish, doesn't come with a polished lip.

The SSR Professor apparently comes in 16" but the smallest size readily available (i.e. from Tire Rack) is 17", and I think given the proportion of the '05 MSM wheels to the car they'd look alright. Also my car has side skirts which help to fill out the look with bigger wheels, which the MSM doesn't have.

F*ck it then..h:

Go with the Professors instead.

I'd run a 16", so that the tire sidewall has a bit more meat to it.
But as you noted, the 3-piece design does shrink the overall proportions a bit.
A 17" wheel wouldn't look all that strange. :dunno:

All in all, it's your money. h:

seems a little too classy for a miata :dunno: it does look good, it just doesn't quite fit. Find some cheapo knock-offs, and it'll be ok :bigok:
