That's assuming the resulting problem occurs within the warranty period, tho. If the wrong decision about that first 10K interval causes your engine to fail at half its life, meaning say 100K instead of 200K, the warranty won't help you.

When did you work for Honda? I'm curious because I've never heard of the additive thing...

The manual says every 10k miles for the I4, and 7.5k for the V6.
Personally, I wouldn't wait so long, since the drivetrain prob. shears off more metal particles during the break-in period. My dealer gave me 3 freebies, the first one at 3750 miles. A good way is to look at the oil after 10k and see if it's clean. I'd be surprised if it wasn't slightly syrupy and black. If so, then change it more frequently. Mine looked pretty dirty after 7500 miles, so I'll probably go about 5k miles. More often never hurts, it's just more $.

go ahead and prove it beyond any shadow of a doubt was because you did what they told you to do and it was because the oil wasn't changed within the first 10k and I'll show you they'll honor it.

I'm sure they didn't just pull that number off a dart board at a drunken late night at the shop, just follow what they say and if there's a problem after that, then talk to them.

yeah 15qts but that's for the air cooled ones and the oil provided cooling too.

btw BMW oil change interval is ~15K miles but they use synthetic oil from the factory.

I worked for them this past summer. Go to a Honda dealership and ask anyone there about it. They'll tell you there is an additive. The service writers are trained to know about things like that.
