How many of you guys use the parking brake even when you're not on a hill?
Manual: in Neutral, with parking brake on, always.
It comes out of habit because older cars I've driven would start in any gear with a manual, clutch in OR out. I used to switch back and forth with autos frequently, so I never had to worry about it that way.

in all my cars my procedure is the same.
if auto, put car in neutral, raise parking brakes, lift foot of the brake pedal and allow the parking brakes to take the load, then put foot back on the brake pedal and put tranny into Park.
similar in manual except i put the car in 1st or reverse depending on how i'm parked.
if on a hill add turning the steering wheel to both of the above.

when i was in indiana, my brother left his windows down on his car (datsun something), and he was parked on a slight hill, and i guess someone came by and took his ebrake off, and his car rolled down the hill about 60 feet and crashed into a telephone pole.
