As in, no matter where you are.

I do, and I have a manual.

It is a much bigger problem when you have an auto, because not using the parking brake + auto = trouble.

i use it other time, i get so damn tired of holding the brake pedal while waiting 40hrs n traffic everyday or n somet stupid traffic light that takes 5mins to change n the middle of nowhere.

i do now...before i didn't b/c chicago is perfectly flat...but in LA there are more elevation changes and stuff...and i wanna try and keep my AT working as long as possible...cuz once the tranny goes, car gets left behind

I do, out of habit.

dwasifar Oct 12, 2004 07:21 AM

I use the parking brake:
- when parked, always, no matter whether I'm driving a manual or auto
- to keep from rolling backwards into the jackass who has crept up to my rear bumper on a steep hill, when launching a manual
- in conjunction with engine braking if I want to slow down without lighting the brake lights

Related question: if you have a manual, assuming you always use the parking brake, how do you leave the transmission when you park? I leave it in 1st; I've met others who habitually leave it in neutral or reverse.

actually if you have drums (maybe disks too?) in the back of your car your suppose to ALWAYS use you parking brake b/c it keeps the shoes even or something and makes the brakes last longer

I always use it. I know i'm in florida and there are no hills, but it just became habit after a while.

AccordV6 Oct 12, 2004 10:57 AM

I do use it all the time , regardless of where i park. I live in OC, Califor.
it becomes habbit after a while.which is think is good. because my car seem shaking after I park if i dont use hand break, which can cause trouble for my AT.
by the way, i hve an Auto
