For snow tires, is it true the tire is supposed to be thinner? My stock tires are 215/45/17 but my snows are 205/65/15. Is that...okay?

yup. you want something that will cut down through the snow to either the hard packed snow or the pavement, then grip.

Having a ton of grip on the top of fluffy snow will just make the people behind you unhappy :reechy:

Wider tires will float ontop of the snow where these is no grip. You want the thinnest tires that will go on your car. I know guys who use 185/65x14" tires on their Civics. Some going as far as 175/75x13".

The price was for a 185/65/14 by the way. I've found that the skinner the tire, the better it handles snow. My 205/50/15's don't do so well.
Thanks. I'm trying to locate something comprable in dimensions for a 17" wheel on a Civic... this is a difficult task.

Tempting but I still have probably at least another year on my blizzaks left before they need replaced. Man, don't remind me that I'm going to have to switch over to snow tires soon, that's just depressing.

It's not so bad when you get to do 4-6 snowcross events Makes it worth while to have snow tires on then

What kind of car do you have? You should get the skinniest tire. Can you fit 15s?
