whats price should i look for for a good setup

Then all you have to do is pick a good progressive scan all region decoding DVD player with surround support.

DVD players are pretty generic now and to pay over $200 for one would be stupid because it is throwaway technology at this point.

actually i was thinking of something simpler

To be honest with you I would go into BB and test that out before you order it.

I have played around with a few of those systems and IMO they are kind of lackluster. Granted it is in a large uncarpeted area for the most part with noise around it but the speakers shouldn't crackle as I heard them do and the bass should have a solid punch as well as a nice low rumble.

Take a movie like Twister in and load it on and play through some selected scenes that will really move the speakers and give you a good idea of what it will sound like.
