Proper Way to Downshifting
My friend and I were discussing this morning about the proper ways to downshift. He said that it depends on what speed you're going and various other things that I can't remember off the top of my head right now.
Anyhoo, what he usually does is if he's in 5th and has to stop suddenly, in order to use less of the brake, he'd throw it into 2 and gradually let off the clutch while keeping his foot on the brake and making sure not to over-rev or whatever.
What are your opinions, thoughts, etc.?

thats not really the best way to do it. Some would say don't down shift brake at all, and others would say it's perfectly ok. Most say don't ever roll at high speed with the clutch in, and I would say just use the brakes. They are a LOT easier and cheaper to replace.

The reason I asked was because my brakes are going and ATM I can't get them replaced. But the other day I had to stop suddenly and had to push the brakes almost all the way in in order to stop. And when he's driving, I always watch him when he downshift so I was just wondering what I should do when I am downshifting.
