I don't think Los Angeles is the "paradise" people speak of, it's the area's around it that make southern California so nice. Los Angeles itself certainly isn't wonderful, but the coastal city's right near it and things like that make that area gorgeous.
In any case, if you wanted more "beauty" you should have gone to the Bay Area.

The area north of the bay area is my kinda California
As for the 909, close enough to LA that I get the big city benefits without the huge city, less smog and near the Mountains/Outdoorsy Shit
