i know the difference between smog test and test only places
can someone explain why we need test only?

Maybe to test your car to see if it will pass smog? Then do it again to actually take the test and send it in to the DMV :dunno:

It always is a one stop thing around here.

 

test only just means that all they do is the test, they don't do any repairs. also means that they report the results of the test directly to the dmv

 

i'm pretty sure in CA all rest results go directly to the dmv be it test only or not.

test onl places are cheaper to setup grif and some people feel better going to a test only place since they wont make any extra money by intentionally failing you (or some people think that they might be doing that)

 

test only is a lot more strict since theyre not allowed to work on a car before or after a check. they can only refer where to go and what they think might be the cause of the problem. also test only centers are mandatory for gross polluters and the like and randomly chosen cars... but then rereading your question... i dont think i answered "why" :x

everyone gets an F except eddie who gets a C+
i took mines to some koreans this morn and it took about 15 mins and cost $30
i took my gf 91 tercel to a test only place last year and it took about 30 mins and cost almost $200

 

200?? wtf?!

 

dang, $30 is dirt cheap....almost evens out the insane $200
