Default boba/tapioca

so a few days ago i was in the chinatown area (stockton blvd for you sacramento peeps) and i was looking for some boba/tapioca so i could make some at home. i know how to make thai tea so i thought id give it a shot and see if it tastes the same. long story short i couldnt find the damn boba. i asked the people working there who didnt speak english so that was no help. and i have no idea of how it is packaged or in what isle/department.

is it canned, dried, frozen, partially frozen, jared or what? and in what section should i be looking for it.

the black pearly stuff for those who dont know

I hate those things. A local chain called java and cha puts those in their drinks. They are excellent for long distance shooting though.

I've seen the dry one that you have to boil in a rice cooker but that one is hard to find. I usually just go for the frozen ones that I get at Ranch 99.
