They are freeze dried or vaccum sealed in a bag.

My recommended boiling procedure is:
1. use 1:7 ratio of tapicoa pearls to water (so 1 cup pearls for 7 cups of water).
2. bring water to boil
3. pour in pearls
4. keep mixing until they float
5. turn down heat, but keep it boiling
6. boil with cover on for 30 minutes
7. remove from heat and let it sit in the hot water for 25 minutes
8. dump into strainer and rinse with cold water for 5 minutes

To store it you put them in a plastic zip lock bag and store it in the freezer flat. When you need some break some off and stick in boiling water for about 5-10 minutes.

Mike you have to try the ones they sell to the boba shops. They are really good

I'll see if my friend that owns a boba shop will get me some

BTW the cooking procedure makes a difference if you're using electric or gas heat.

Well I ordered mine online. Just like they have in the bubble tea shops.

Very true about cooking. I followed directions online at another place and it said to cook for 1 hour. When I poured them out they were mush.

there are some partially precooked and some dried. they usually come in a clear vacuum sealed bag like everyone says. it looks like preserved food. the dried ones are grayish colored and the partially cooked ones are darker gray to black.

i suggest you buy the precooked ones so all you have to do is reboil them. the dried ones take FOREVER to boil and they dont taste as good as the drinks from Boba shops.

i added brown sugar to the water while i was boiling them to give it a sweeter taste.

you can buy them at SF supermarket on 65th.

have fun
