it's just a wireless 802.11g router with a couple of extra features, so it has the same range as one.

Ahh, I misread what he said. Wireless printing wouldn't be a big deal in a car, seeing as how a parallel printer cable would serve the same purpose.

XP can do that just fine. In fact I've never been infected with a virus/worm since before XP has even come out. I also leave my pc on all the time, on battery backup. I haven't had to reboot for months at a time just fine with xp.

the only benefit i see is that you can hook up a usb device, and an audio device. however, this is nothing that can't be accomplished if you already have a notebook. it is a neat feature, but it is by no means revolutionary.

and another thing, why does it also work on a PC? because this thing is using standards. so apple is still < PC. :exnbp:

Do it for $129 and have no setup or configuration time. How are you going to stream MP3's to it?

I got the printer for $89, but with a $100 rebate on it. A low-end printer. With the Airport extreme, there is a USB port built in for your printer, and a hardware print server.

How much would it cost you to mimic that technology? How much will an Ethernet card cost you for the printer you plug into your router... how much does an Ethernet-capable printer cost? Now that all that's figured out, you still can't wirelessly stream an audio signal to it from iTunes... which, by the way, is available free from Apple for your PC.

I'll admit that it's a silly thing to do. But still... it's

Good point on the parallel thing. I totally overlooked that you can buy a router with a parallel printer port. My bad... now on to the audio part?

Why would you need a router in a car?

Now see, that's where you @^$#ed up because Apple has managed to set all those standards by equipping their systems with the industry standards that everyone like Dell, HP, Gateway, IBM, etc... fought over with their own proprietary versions that failed. Some examples...

SCSI

USB

FireWire (which they won an Emmy for setting the IEEE-1394 standard and being the first to develop home DV editing software that rivaled Hollywood production studios)

802.11b wireless

802.11g wireless

a GUI operating system

Don't forget your freakin' MOUSE was a descendent of what Jobs and Wozniak invented in their garage, and everyone thought they were crazy.

Apple put these working technologies into their standard hardware line-up before Microsoft ever had drivers for this crap... So... what standards are we talking about here? Fortunately there's enough competition so it trickles down to you within a couple of months, several bloat-ware OS patches and lawsuits later. Competition is good. Every business needs it. It makes all of them better.

Your car stereo.

No wires to connect your MP3s to your car, and that's already available with a FM transmitter, but this uses 802.11g with a DA converter. No interference. Digital Audio.
