you all realized giving a diamond ring as the engagement ring wasn't a tradition until debeers started their massive advertising campaign.

in fact i read a study where in japan only about 10% of the men gave diamond engagement rings until debeers started advertising and within 10 years it went up to 68 or 78%.

as for myself I plan on giving my fiance a diamond of appropriate size color cut clarity and thus value.

yes, the debeers cartel. they also control the flow of diamonds into the marketplace so as to keep them scarce and expensive.

no magic to a good diamond. its all science. do some research on how to judge a diamond beyond the "four c's".
