Its stock except for the sticker of the chick on the frame. :P
I wish I had hydraulic disc brakes. It isn't worth what it would cost to retrofit the bike with it, so I'll just buy a bike with better brakes next time around. In the meantime, the frame is light, the brakes are decent, the shifters are really comfortable for me, so I'm happy. I also don't go hucking off rocks like a ninja so I don't care about rear suspension at this point.

Nashbar.com has Shimano Deore front and rear mechanical disc brakes on sale for $40 each. I don't know how good they are because I've never tried them but they look decent.
Use dry chain lube for mountain bikes. dirt doesnt stick to them as much as wet lube. the downside to dry lube is it doesnt last very long. relubing after each session is not uncommon. but you also don't need to clean it as much as wet lube. because when the dry lube flakes off the chain, the dirt goes with it.

h:Hey, I get pretty tired quick myself... with the asthma and all. And my knee will probably crap out before you even lose any wind.
h: But I still don't let that stop me from biking.
