Default Vid card issues

Just bought a ATi 9600XT today and installed it but now I am having issues running it for some reason.

I boot up and am able to run windows for a short period then the card shuts down on me and won't run. I have a 300w power supply that is in excellent working order and am running 2 hard drives 2 DVD Roms and a floppy off it.

Am I drawing too much power and it is forcing the vid card to shut down? or am I missing something here?

I installed as usual and set it to 1280x1024 resolution and figured I would drop a level but it won't stay booted long enough to let me do it.

The fan is working fine and I have another floor fan blowing on the case just in case that was the issue but it doesn't seem to be doing anything to help

Help!!!!

dammit don't tell me that

Is it really that much of a power draw to run a vid card though? My last card ran fine on it which was an MX400...granted it was older but is it really that much more of a draw on the power supply?

The computer itself is still on but the vid card goes black on me.

i had a 350w powering 4 hd's, 2 cd roms, and a bunch of fans, and half the time 1 or 2 of my hard drives wouldn't have enough power to be read correctly and the system would randomly lock up, or turn off. after i bought my 450w p/s, i never had another problem.

I only have the driver that came with the card....I can't stay up long enough to DL the latest. I was in the process of setting the resolution and refresh rates when it started doing this.

i think the minimum suggested for a 9600 card is 350w. how many fans do you have? and what speed proc?
