As far as I know, there's only one registry per machine.

If you need a document, shortcut or Favorite that's in another user's profile, find the folder Documents and Settings, usually on drive C:. The user profiles are all in there. If the user's profile is not set as private, you should be able to see everything in it. The only way to see all user profiles, even the ones set as private, is to log in as Administrator. (In Windows XP Home Edition, that means you have to start in Safe Mode.)

Yup, HKLM is for everything on that maching, including all users.

If you have admin or power user rights, you can change the password on that particular account you are trying to access, then log in.

Is this at home or at work?

Click Start, then Run

Type "regedit" and hit enter

Click File, then Connect Network Registry

If you enter the computer name and click OK you should be able to open the registry remotely.

This procedure takes advantage of the fact that remote registry editing is turned on by default in Windows. If you run Windows 2000 Pro or Windows XP and want to disable this feature, which could result in somebody seriously exploiting your machine, you can do so in the following manner:

Open Control Panel

Go to Administrative Tools

Go to Services

Scroll down to Remote Registry, righ-click on it and click on Properties

Change startup type to "disabled" and click "STOP" to stop the service from running. No reboot necessary.
