Click Start, then Run

Type "regedit" and hit enter

Click File, then Connect Network Registry

If you enter the computer name and click OK you should be able to open the registry remotely.

This procedure takes advantage of the fact that remote registry editing is turned on by default in Windows. If you run Windows 2000 Pro or Windows XP and want to disable this feature, which could result in somebody seriously exploiting your machine, you can do so in the following manner:

Open Control Panel

Go to Administrative Tools

Go to Services

Scroll down to Remote Registry, righ-click on it and click on Properties

Change startup type to "disabled" and click "STOP" to stop the service from running. No reboot necessary.
