Default Help

I don't know much about cars. I have a potentual huge prob brewing...

My Main't Req'd light came on on my way home from work. I had my oil changed Friday like 7/31/04. I am flipping out I called the dealership they said it was just the indication for the need for an oil change and to leave it sit for the 5000 miles. I can not do that!

A friend said her nephew's Honda did this and he just pushed the milage thing to get it to stop. I am to scared to do this. If the Honda Dealership suggest to leave it sit ? Why would they do this?

Do any of you know what the anwser is to this?

first of all you shouldnt listen to dealers
2nd of all they were right in this case :dunno:

the maintainence light comes on every 15k miles i think it is just as a reminder, not an indicator of a problem

you can reset it back to green? but youll have to remember your maintenance schedule

 you asshole.

You could either leave it or just reset it yourself. That's all they do at the dealer anyway. It goes on every so many miles regardless of whether or not there is something needing maintenance.

turn the key to start and the button is under the steering wheel dash part. or check a manual, that's how it is for my gsr. but yes, just a reminder that comes on automatically, not indicating an actual problem.

Yes I did take it to this one place where a friend referred because the dealership is quite a way away from my home. He changed the oil etc at 3000K as I thought you were supposed to do(FYI- I am a Chic) it was $32.00, a bit pricey since my bro in law used to change my other cars oil for like the cost of oil at $10.00.

I decided after being overcharged and my warranty is since effective that I would take more time to visit the dealer. I had a coupon for $22.50 which included a carwash/ vaccuum. Plus I was off for the afternoon and felt this would be a good deal. And records could be better maintained if the dealership serviced. Also I wouldn't let the ole bro-in law touch the Honda!!!!! He could try it for free and I would say Nada!!!!! I felt like I got a great deal at the dealership until this light indicator situation popped up! Now I am scared.

I understand what your saying about reseting the indicator light but think that I should let Honda check it out first plus The schedule should be 5000K after this change so it will need to be reset I think now and it will be on schedule. The Odometer is at 14,999k. I wonder why it wasn't reset by them while I was there?

Who changes your oil? Do you think this is just a reset situation?

BTW I am not an asshole. Why do you think that?

being a chic doesnt mean you cant do your own oil change,.... i did my integra and my truck and it took me about 25 minutes including pulling them both in and outta the garage etc

he didnt call you an asshole, he called hybrid an asshole, dont sweat

what kind of car is it? the maint. req light means nothing just that some part of scheduled maint. is due (could just be your 5k check up or something small)

i wouldnt spend the money to take it in, just reset the light yourself.

I tried the oil change before it gets messy.

I don't think it will cost $$$ to bring it in. When I dropped it at Honda I asked them to see if it was all in check because everyone else there in the waiting area had probs with there cars and they said that they would let me know if anyhing were off.

I am thinking if I reset it and take it in 5k miles I will be ok, but the service man I spoke with said it will be off schedule and that it needed to stay on till the next one that is due. If I just had the work done it will be on schedule if it is reset. Do you see what I mean?
