Default quick question for the nerds :oh: DSL modem question

ok. quick questions. here is a regular DSL modem plugged in,

PHONE JACK - FILTER - RJ-11 LINE TO MODEM - MODEM - router...whatever...

now, is there a maximum length that the RJ-11 line to the modem can be? can i use a 25ft wire from the filter to the modem? any cons of running such a length?

spank ya.

i see no problem with that since some people run network wires throughout the house and have no problems

You shouldn't put the filter FROM the wall TO the Modem, rather filters just between the wall and phones...

yea...but i have 2 jacks in the house. one upstairs another downstairs. until we can get some sort of central phone system ( h: ), both jacks house phones also.

dave: i was asking because i remember someone telling me that the modem should be as close to the jack as possible.

true story.

phone jack - RJ11 - Modem
phone jack - filter - phone
phone jack - filter - phone

thats how it needs to be setup.

also, im relatively certain its better to run longer rj45 than it is to run longer rj11 although it probably wont make THAT much of a difference, phone lines are obviously less quality than ethernet.

My filters have the plug that goes into the phone jack, then on the other end there are 2 ports. 1 says phone, the other says DSL. In the instructions it says to connect a filter to every phone jack, and only the modem should be plugged into the DSL port. All phones obviously go into the phone port.

its only like that so you dont lose a jack because of the filter and so that you can move your dsl modem.

you could plug the dsl straight into the wall and the filters everywhere else and it would work
