lets say you have 10 employees running a floral shop
2 go on paid leave at the end of january
now you need to hire temporary help and pay more money for someone who is not as experienced

i think its a bad idear and if were to go on family leave i wouldnt expect to be paid
all kinds of people in the county go on family leave and now they have incentive not to come back to work

I think you missed the point of the paid family leave.

What it is implying is family emergency not that it can be used the same as vacation time

most daycares wont take babies before they are 6 weeks old so one parent has no choice but to stay home..and who really can afford to lose an entire half of their income for 6 weeks? also, what if your husband/wife got sick and needed 24 hour care for a couple of weeks. you can either hire a nurse or lose two paychecks. as communist as the idea is, i think it's great. everyone pays a little bit more into the fund and the people who are desperately in need benefit.

 bad horrible idea, hope it gets banned. If a real emergency comes up something can be worked out, but just having 6 free weeks to use at your will's just plain bad business. x 10

Ok I see what you are saying but I think the problem there is that not everyone is able to save money since they are living from check to check etc.

Yeah I hear the argument now, "can't afford it don't get knocked up" but that is unrealistic because these things happen.

I think one of the things this program is working to eliminate is say someone gets into an accident and a member of the family needs to care for them for a time. Well even if they have money saved up for such a case there is really no guarantee that they have a job when they get back....this helps guarantee they have a job when they return.

Using pregnancy as an example for this type of policy is a very bad choice of examples btw.

the problem with this it that most companies have an emergency leave system already in place which they get tax breaks for. seems a bit redundant and an increased burden on the taxpayer.
