Default Is an alarm worth it?

About three weeks, my civic got stolen. I had a Viper 300 ESP Alarm on it. Obviously this did not do any good, because the alarm did not go off when the car was stolen, and I doubt it even slowed them down. Just sunday I bought a 99 ABP Integra LS, but it didnt come with an alarm.

My question is...is it worth it to shell out $200-$300 for another alarm? Obviously the last alarm didnt make much difference, and Ive already installed two kill switches, and have a steering wheel club the previous owner of the car gave me. Is this the extent of what I can do for security without Lojack, or would it actually make a difference to have an alarm...I was thinkin about goin for the Viper XV 650 btw, if I decided to get an alarm, if that matters. Any input is appreciated.

I think that the pager alarms and misc. kill switches are the most effective.

Taking out your ECU and ECU fuses are next.

Removable steering wheel....Auto-Lock, then LoJack.

But, if a theif wants your car, they will have it. All these things are detterant.

Also...ABP Teg?

YES, get an alarm and go to a good place to get it installed.

an alarm is a theif DETERRENT for the most part. before that guy got away with your car, that alarm *could have deterred 4 others. :dunno:

Here is how I see it. If you get an alarm, get a hood lock. If you use the Club, use a steering wheel cover or sheild. Without those additions, each is just about fractions of a second to being worthless.

You might be able to get away with not using a hood lock if you make the siren inaccessible and back up everything. I guess it goes without saying that quality of install is everything. Any alarm components should be well hidden. Unfortunately, most retail installation shops won't do that at their regular install rates.

[edit]Congrats on the new purchase. It looks nice.

get the shocker.

ELECTRONIC SHOCK SYSTEM
Electric shock discharge system is installed on the car. Anyone who touches the car without authority will receive an electronic shock capable of rendering the individual harmless.
heh

Or the Terminator...

THE TERMINATOR - "The Alarm that Fights Back"

Up until now, every single alarm system that you have encountered featured a deterrent which involved a siren, or noise maker of some kind. The primary problem with these types of alarm systems is that if the speaker is disabled first, the alarm system is rendered virtually useless. Even if they don't disable the alarm, by the time that police arrive, they have had plenty of time to roam through your property and steal what they want. This is especially true in rural or remote areas. The Terminator is a totally new concept in alarm systems. This is a "kick some ass", take no prisoners, make-em pay, get even, no B.S. alarm system that actually FIGHTS BACK! Unlike other alarms systems, when a burglar trips this alarm, they are instantly blasted with 4 ounces of highly effective O.C. spray!!! This spray affects their eyes, burns their throat, hinders their breathing, and makes if virtually impossible to stay inside the room for any more than a few seconds. NO time to breathe, NO time to look around, NO time to steal... This is the perfect solution for storage sheds, garages, homes, offices, -- anyplace that needs highly effective yet inexpensive protection. While it is illegal to "booby trap" your property, because this system is 100% non lethal, it is 100% legal to use virtually anywhere!
