I heard... from Dogma... that Hell wasn't a fiery pit of death and torture. It used to just be a place where the divine light didn't shine. Humans made hell into a pit of despair and torture.

Kevin Smith's interpretation anyway

I have no strong feelings one way or another on this subject.

I always thought it was until I started studying religion and became Christain, albiet still not an ideal one.

How this does sound: Hell is basically a place where those that choose not to be with God are located. God does not kill them off because of mercy- he wants his creations to live. So hell is basically the eternal seperation from God.

Good movie.

Apparently certain illustrative adjectives used in the bible were taken out of context during the translation.

The "flaming sword" coming from Jesus' mouth during his reincarnation isn't really a physical thing, but rather 'hot' words in an 'important' sense. Also, the flames surrounding him were characterized wrong. The translation was wrong again as the flames really mean an aura of importance, or something like that.

A book I read was written by this guy who asked the hardest questions to all the theologian experts. Really, really good book for those who believe or even those who don't. Very scientific and not a book written by a zealot.

I don't believe in any sort of afterlife condition. I used to believe that I would be re-incarnated after I died, but in deep thought I realized that we don't sustain 'life' all we are really, are just atoms ontop of atoms that create something that can do certain tasks depending on chemical reactions. I don't believe in 'life'. When I say 'life' I mean the differences between us and a rock, I just think that just because we have all these functions in our bodies does not constitute a difference between us and a rock. I'm getting beyond the point. I look at it as we are here on earth for no apparent reason, it's just what happened, and there is no higher form that control us. Honestly if you think about it, you can come to an opinion beyond reasonable doubt that afterlife is inexistent.
I'm not bashing anyone that believes in christian belief, Hindu or any other creed, because that would be hypocritical of me since this is what I believe.
Eh, just wanted to say that.

nope...
Im not putting you down or anything, some religions (even christianity) will make the image of hell seem like the worst thing in the world and will even make illustrations as to what it will look like. But in reality, if you read the bible God talks about creating such a plase to ban Lucifer and his followers, but in that same chapter (i forget which one it is) he explains how Lucifer will bring down as many people as he can till that day when he is damned to hell he will not go alone and take down all the people who decided to follow him and not God.

Like I said I can go on forever about it

no one knows what they will look like in heaven, but one can be garunteed that it will glorify God. No matter if he has us look like children (babies even) but no matter, the form you shall take upon entering the pearly gates will be glorious beyond your wildest dreams.

Beats me, I haven't read the bible, I just read the analysis books for Religion courses in University. That was that I gathered according to the professor and experts. In basic form, he said 'hell is not a physical place but rather eternal seperation from God'. Who am I to argue with haha.

Thanks for the insight, the Lucifer part sounds interesting, I think i'll have a go at it.

As a bible believing Chrisitan, I truly believe hell is a physical place, and people suffer...alot... Some may say its not, in an effort to comfort those headed there... But the truth is, the fire and brimestone are hardly the least of an unsaved persons problems in hell. The worst part of hell is the eternal seperation from God...

hell is the eternal lake of fire, a place of sulfur and gasses. Infinate tourture waits for those who choose not to believe in God, or blaspheme his ways. I'm not saying torture in the form of physical pain, but once you die and see the glory of God for what it really is, and then become eternally seperated from it, you'll know what you could've had, and know what you'll never get...that can be torture enough

Well, think about this. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, just think about it:

Everything must come from nothing.

Many scientists agree the Universe was created in the big bang. Yet, how does something become created from nothing? This is where a supernatural, divine being is involved (hopefully).

Also, there was some research that the Universe is not really as old as what it was originally thought to be. So, although the theory of evolution does sound logical, it may only be a partial truth. I don't have the source of this on me (it's upstairs) but the calculation for everything evolving was something like one in fifty with fourty or fifty zeros.
