Hydrolock Claimed my VW. CAI beware!
I know I don't own a honda/acura, but I know that many of you are running the same risks I did. If you value your motor, consider this.
Wednesday, we had some seriously heavy rains here in Louisiana. We literally got 6 inches of rain in a matter of 3 hours. I HAD to drive through this mess in order to get to work, and in doing so, hit a very deep puddle (about 6 in) and consequently, my engine is destroyed.
I always thought that this could never happen to me... that CAI's were "relativley" safe. "Everybody's got one"... I thought... "I need to find a HUGE puddle to get any water in there"... Well, one puddle was big enough, and that one mistake is now potentially costing me BIG TIME.
The insurance adjuster will be looking at my car Monday, and he may or may not void my insurance based on the intake. If he does, then I will be without a car, and $9000 in debt left on the loan for the car. I will not go and remove the intake (car at shop), because that is flat-out fraud, and both my conscience and potential jail time will not allow that. The cost of swapping in a new VR6 engine is between $5500 and $7800, and quite frankly, I can't afford it.
So, I have both a question, and a word of advice. My advice is, 5-6 whp max is not worth it. If you want real power, get a freakin turbo or nitrous.
My question is... How many of you have had your insurance voided due to aftermarket parts, particularly CAI's and hydrolock? I want an idea what my chances are, before I get confronted by the bad news.
