Sometimes it's nice to get the coals that aren't pressed into briquettes. They actually look like charred pieces of wood. When I worked at summer camp we had this bigass 4 foot square grill that we would fill up with those suckers and cover in lighter fluid, then get it going until it was almost white hot. Then came the inevitable 10 to 15 minutes of waiting for it to cool down.

Never tried those. I've always had good food with match light. But I'll keep that in mind this summer.

The trick is you need to soak the coals like 2 or 3 times. Lay em out, cover em with a whole lotta fluid, let it sit for like 5 minutes, then do it again, let it sit for another five minutes, and give it a few healthy squirts right before lighting it. It'll get really freakin hot which is why you have to let it cool down.
