Yes, Windows XP sucks just as much as every other version of Windows

get decent software for maintanance and you don't need to reformat - that said I've loaded windows at least 10x on my PC over the last 4 years -- usually pre-SP1. Once was bad to a horrible Virus that I couldn't get rid of, and 2-3 times b/c I felt like it.
I had SP2 on my PC and I removed it... It is stable yes, but my god it slowed my PC down alot, and it is a bit over protective... Can't check UCD email anymore, or even access any secure sites that have to do with Wells Fargo or UCD.

I've got the standard complement of Norton, Ad-Aware, etc.

For whatever reason I develop problems with things like networking and various other crap that is unexplainable. All the various quirks (and there were a whole bunch of em) are now gone since the reformat.

Actually I got this comp in November '02 and this is the first time that I've wiped it, but it's been long overdue.

Are your mobo and memory good brands or generic? I've heard that alot of ppl who skimp on these parts have more problems than ppl who pay the extra money. My sis' old PC only convinced me more of this...

edit: Oh yeah, and are you using home or pro?

Yeah, put the OS on a seperate partition in case that's necessary again.

Personally, mine still runs as smoothly as Day 1, which was about a year and a half ago. :dunno: It's XP Pro, though. I don't like XP Home.
