I think the computerized sequential gearbox on a Ferrari would prevent that nowadays.

no i swear it was her. she was driving something (maybe not ferrari, but it was expensive), and she put it in 2nd at like 90mph or something.....

she had to pay for the repairs, not like it hurt her cashflow any.
i remember it on the news....someone has to know what im talkin about.

You should tell the construction blocks not to be so angry.

Why is everything so mad? :wtc:

I feel sorry for your engine and transmission. If you blip it high enough before you downshift you won't hurt much, but then again most people I see driving standards let the synchros do the job. Its all about physics, when you downshift your revs go up... you compensate by blipping the revs up if you care about your synchro.

hahaha.. that's what I do most of the time.. I shifted to 2nd cuz I was stupid and I thought it'll go faster than shifting to 3rd or 4th.. So you guys mean that if i leave 2000 rpm before redline it should be ok (engine)? i have never redlined my car.. i usually feel how it feels so when it's time to change gears (which is at 3 or 3.5k) i usually do.. I've never heard of stories (good/bad) about going above 4k, but are there? I've been driving manual since '00 and I've always made sure I do what I've been taught.

you should find out what the max speed is for each gear at redline....most cars in general do redline pretty damn close to 60mph +/- a couple mph. ive gone from 50mph in 5th gear, down to 2nd gear downshifts...just revmatch and floor the sucker h:
