Default HELP!! Wireless Router Trouble!!

Well my g/f bought a wireless router to go with her laptop. We tried to install it at her house and it did not work. Everything went fine but on the last step after connecting the hardware, it did not want to connect to the internet. Then we brought it to my hosue thinking that her DSL was the problem and my cable modem did the same thing, it did not want to connect to the internet. This is how we had it connected.

1 ethernet cable from the PC to the router in slot 1
1 ethenet cable from the modem into the router in the internet/wan space.

and yea power and what not. HELP!!

what brand router?
Sometime you have to have specific settings to connect to certain ISP's. I had to check Linksys's website for exact setup instructions.

Read the instructions. Most wireless routers will have you setup each PC to obtain IP's dynamically if they aren't already. I highly recommend setting up the SSID as well to something other than "default" or you may have intermittant connections or people leeching off your broadband. There is really not much to it at all. They usually can be setup and configured in minutes so definitely go back and read the instructions.

I had issues with my d-link wireless and called their tech support. Worked fine after that. The PC wireless cards suck. Especially if you have a decent distance between the router and card. I went with the usb card b/c you can move it away from a lot of metal parts to get a better signal.

okay after i posted i talked to my friend and he said to reset it, that sometimes its configured differently and resetting works. Well it did work on my home PC that has cable. we got it to work all and it was fine with the laptop. THen we went to her house and tried to set it up again there, but no dice. We put in the PPOE thingy that asked for her user name and password for the DSL and went through every same step but when it dialed up it made no connection. that was the problem it didnt complete the call and connect. grrr!!! i thought i had it !! i hate DSL

go to belkin's website and see if you can find how to specifically connect that router to that ISP.
Sometimes you have to set a specific redial period (20sec for Earthlink DSL) to get it to connect.

Just checked, nothign specific for the ISP but there is a part in the FAQ about what to do if it does not want to connect to the ISP, i have to donwload the latest Firmware and hopefully that will work. Weird because it worked on mine but i'll try it on her computer later tonight and hope that works.
