I haven't even considered doing this on my car. But I'd help you out. Why do you want to convert to r134a?

I was looking over on how to do it and it seems expensive. You'll need a new reciever/dryer, r134a compressor, o-rings, high/low pressure switches, and possibly a thermal expansion valve. Supposedly you can get a conversion kit from the dealer for $250.

well mine is leaking. probably an O ring so I figured if I'm going to change all the O rings might as well do the complete swap.

the previous owner got a new dryer so I don't need that. the compressor is compatible with r134a so I'm okay there as well. I do have to remove the compressor and the PAG oil and refill it with the compatible oil.

I saw that some people were getting the conversion kit for around $100.

Oh, that sucks. Well I'm not sure what else you need so I asked a guy on an e30 forum who has done it before. I'll get back to you on this. It seems like all you may need is just new o-rings.

He responded saying he's going to get his system charged this weekend so he'll let me know how it turns out. He only replaced his o-rings and left the old hi/low pressure switches alone because they recharge less of r134a than r12. So all you need is o-rings.

Yeah you definitely have to do that. But you do plan on getting it recharged at a shop right?

That means basically that you make more power by increasing torque or increasing revs. The problem you run into is that most motors make less and less torque as you rev them more, so the goal with these nutso high revving motors is to allow them to produce torque at high rpm since the faster it is spinning the more the torque is multiplied by.

It is.
Yup this is true, I was watching speed channel and they said F1 is trying to lower the displacement from NA 3.5 to NA 3.0 liter in late 2004 season. Right now they're making about 850HP so in late 2004, they might be down to 800HP; the same as CART and Indy cars.
