Default gun question:

so, i want to own a hand gun, but being 19 years old, i'm having my brother buy it for me, and i'll buy it from him when I turn 21.

is there any additional fees when you buy a gun, like registration fees or anything like that?

why dont you wait till you are 21 to buy your own gun,..because then there will be somewhat new guns on the market that might interest you

as for your question,..every state varies,..look up the gun laws in your state

laws are different in every state. you'd be better off contacting your state police department or talking to a local police officer

In Virginia, it's still relatively inexpensive buying a gun. You pay excise tax and you pay a small fee that allows the vendor to pass along the cost of the background check, which check can usually be completed in short order.

However, since you've mentioned it, you might want to check about whether it's lawful in your locality and state for your elder brother to buy a gun for the express purpose of a minor's use.

I have noticed minors being taught to shoot at ranges in Virginia that are frequented by the state police; however, the guns are locked up and transported by adults when leaving the range.

yeh, in cali, it's specifically illegal to buy a gun for someone else, but cali is really strict. transfer fees that include the DROS are like $25 or something.
