Default ? on upgrade WinME to XP

would all the files be erased? I'm asking because my roommates computer (running WinME) needs XP installed for stability. He has lots of videos (porn) in KaZaa and various Word, Excel, and Powerpoint files too. Would those be lost while upgrading?

It really depends on how you do the upgrade... If you don't have it reformat/repartition the drive, then your files should still be there. You might have to re-install some of your programs in order to have them work under XP, but the porno shouldn't get deleted

you don't have to let xp convert to NTFS (although NTFS is better than FAT32). if you upgrade, you don't usually lose files. but i never recommend upgrading. it tends to not work as well as a fresh clean install.

even MS admited that it's not the same as a fresh install.

fresh install > upgrade

i would suggest you back up any files you needs, and then let Xp run format/install. It'll be better for you overall.
