V8 Swap into an Alteeza!
I was thinking about why Lexus doesn't make this vehicle. But than I realized that the IS is getting a little long in the tooth. I remember playing Grand Turismo 2 I think it was racing the Altezza and this was years before the IS300 even came to America. So its got to be up for a big redesign soon enough. And Toyota and more so even Lexus (since it effects the name of the vehicle) don't usually change engines mid-body style that much unless it is an outdated engine. So I wouldn't be surprised if the new IS we get is a 430.

at a rate of ~50k, It'd still fall short to the M3, S4, and S60R...atleast IMO.
First of all this is old freakin news. Secondly it's a one-off concept car that has no prospect of making it to production whatsoever. Thirdly it is already known that the next generation IS is going to be a more complete lineup of coupe, sedan, convertible and wagon similar to the BMW 3-series. Lexus is also planning a factory "hot rod" lineup similar to Mercedes AMG, BMW M or Audi S. It would stand to reason that within this lineup there will be a hotted-up IS variant. However that has not been confirmed yet nor have the actual specs of the upcoming IS series of cars.
Now if only everyone paid attention to the news & rumors forum...
