Default Fish vs. Distilled water?

Hey to all the fish gurus...

I have a ten gallon tank and I've got a problem with high pH, hardness and ich. I've contemplated switching out half the water in the tank with distilled water. Can I do this? I know I can't use only distilled, but will a mixture of 50/50 work?

Right now I've got 3 Serpea Tetras in there.

Any help?

I've tried that already, I can't get it to drop below 7.8. It will normally hang out at 8.2.

The problem I have is that since my water is so hard, the pH will not drop very easily. I've been adding twice the recommended amount everyday and it still won't drop.

Is there a difference between "distilled" and filtered, like through a PUR water filter? That might be a possibility.

That's what I was thinking too, I'm not sure. If memory serves me correctly, distilled water is basically boiled water. So technically I could make my own from my tap water.

I don't really know, that was the basis behind my first question.

Well I would have answered that if I had known that you had tried a pH neutralizer already... :db:

You know what's funny? Distilled water doesn't boil, so if you take distilled water that is over it;s boiling point and undistill it by adding any impurities, it will explode. By adding anything to it, the water will instantaneously boil over in front of you, thus making it explode out of the cup. Watch out when you make coffee :awais:
