I did research on the US STi...I just didn't compare it to the JDM STi cause I am not about to import a car from japan. I researched all my options like the US versions of the EVO, 350Z, G35, and RX8.

Lovely car but it's a shame we still don't get the best engine. Friends of mine that own Scoobies said the US STi has around 250 to the wheels whereas the JDM one has 280 at least and is a lot more potent. One guy is tossing out his WRX engine and opting for the spec-c engine for 8k.

well the only downside to the new STi is that its a new engine, and most of its potential problems are just that...potential. I've heard people say they've chosen the EVO over the STi just for the fact that the 2.5 is new. Comparing it to the evo with the 4G63 isn't exactly fair, seeing as how the 4G63 has been around for awhile, but its reliability is proven.

Sure the STi motor is "new," but it's made from the Subaru parts bin with a few goodies added. I personally would not be worried. But people have their reasons for doing what they do.

You could also say it's a high boost version of the 2.5 liter turbo motor from the Forester 2.5XT, Baja Turbo and upcoming new Legacy.
Subaru built it to provide the low end torque that would satisfy the tastes of the typical American consumer. It has the added benefit of propelling said Forester to a 13.8 in the 1/4 mile.
so then why would anybody be worried about it bein a "new" motor...I mean I guess it would be new to boost but the basics of the motor have been around for some time now correct? I dont know much about subies....eventually I wanna scoop up a 2.5RS and drop in the JDM wrx motor from said year...but that is a pipe dream I dont even know if it is feesable.
