Default Best thing to do for a speeding ticket

I went to court today and pleaded not guilty for speeding 85 in a 65. 20mph over is $341 fine, 30 day restriction and no traffic school. Since i pleaded not guilty i had to set a court date in which the cop that wrote me the ticket will be supena. I was positive that I was going 80mph, what is the best wat to convince the judge? Honest opnions please..thanks

So is the reason you pled not guilty because the cop wasn't there? That sucks if the judge is postponing it for another hearing to subpoena the cop, because now basically you're screwed. Best thing to do when you go back is to change your plea to guilty and hope the judge reduces your sentence. There is no way to convince the judge because the cop will say what speed he clocked you going with his speed gun.

You should have said guilty with explaination, made some shit up, and they give you a lower fine and everything and it goes away in a couple months.

When you plead guilty it is your word against a cops, most judges will always believe the cop.

Nah, usually all judges will believe the person that is avoiding the ticket, trust me.

The last time I went to traffic court (granted this was like 5 years ago) the judge convicted every single person that pleaded not guilty. He reduced the sentence of everyone that bothered to show up. After watching a few "trials" I figured this out and plead guilty, no explanation, no nothin. I got off with no points on my license and traffic school.

There were about 50 people in the court room with speeding tickets, so the judge would only ask you if your guilty or not guilty. She didn't have anytime for any explanations, if you did not agree with the charges like how fast you were going you pleaded not guilty and the cop that pulled you over will be supeua and you will present your case.

Ok, the word is "subpoena." Pronounced sub-pee-nuh.

The way traffic court generally works is that if you plead guilty then the judge reduces your sentence. Basically they reward you for taking time out of your day and showing up to pay court fees, with a better driving record than you would have had if you just mailed in the fine for the ticket.

Now it sounds like you have another hearing and the cop is going to show up with results from his speed gun saying that you were in fact going the speed written on your ticket. If you say to the judge, "but I swore I was only doing 80" they will not believe you.

My lawyer friend swears that appearing and pleading guilty (as FatBooty said) is the best way to go - they'll usually drop the points and often reduce the fine.

Actually the judge informed us what will happen if we pleaded guilty. If i pleaded guilty i would get $341 fine which will not be reduced, 30 day driving privliage and will not be able to take traffic schol. So i had no choice and had to pea not guilty. Also, the cop wrote down that my car is blue but its actually Green. Will this help me?
