FIRSTS: Driving a car, what was it like for you?
It was wierd as hell... having control of something that could travel faster than anything i've been in control of... of course i wasnt really pretrained with 4wheelers or snowmobiles or anything of that nature... so i was a complete n00b at 15.... i never understood the quick brake and release crap you see in movies by new drivers.. never happened with me..
dont even get me started on a stickshift... i was prolly one of the slowest learners on this planet... but imo, slow learners = better leaners

I had no problems. Learned in a highschool parking lot, then moved on to the subdivisions and the parkways/highways. By the time I took driver's ed behind-the-wheel, I was a pretty decent driver, so much so that my instructor never told me anything more then where to go/ where to turn.
Learning manual was hell though, I had two lessons before I had to drive a manual transmission truck ('88 Mazda B2200) down to Florida (~800 miles). I was a slow learner who was forced to learn fast. At the time, I had an auto Integra, so I didn't care.
So, all-in-all, learning to drive came natural. Learning manual was a mega-panic-attack stress test.

The first time I "drove" a car it was in my mom's van. She had picked me and a friend up after a half day of school and we were sitting in the car while she went into the store to get something. I was like, "check it out I can drive" and put it in reverse then got surprised as hell when the car started creeping backwards without me doing anything. I put it in drive, inched it back to where it was and said "um yeah maybe I'll wait."
i had been moving cars around my driveway for a lil while, but driving around at maybe 10mph is nothing really. never drove on the road until i got my permit, and with my dad being there, i was pretty confident.
i was really nervous when i got my liscence and could drive on my own to work. i was just a weird sensation to be able to go 65mph.
didn't learn how to drive a manual until i was 19 on my PT Cruiser, i already had the idea of how it worked in my head. took me about 3 good days to get 1st down enough that i didnt jerk.
I'm still learning and playing with the manual to this day... i'm always changing rpms to find the smooth spots and power spots on my car(s)
