Default Honda Pick up

I can't wait to see the pics of the Honda pick-up thats appearing in Detriot in a couple of days.Of course, the concept will probably have crazy aggresive wheel/tire combo and the production version will sport something closer to the Elements.Oh well, theres always the aftermarket!

Would much rather see a full blown truck based on the CRV or Passport.

I'm sure it will be based on the Pilot/Odyssey platform.

The CR-V is based on the Civic. The Passport was a rebadged Isuzu Rodeo and has been replaced by the Pilot. The Pilot/Odyssey/MDX are based on the Accord.

You cannot make a "full blown truck" from a unibody platform, you need a ladder frame. The Rodeo/Passport uses a ladder frame but that was not any sort of engineering agreement, just a rebadging agreement. Honda got the Passport and Isuzu got the Oasis, which was a rebadged 1st-gen Odyssey.

So no, it won't be a "full blown truck."

MrFatBooty, how about the Prelude? Not as a truck, but is that it's own frame or is it based on something else also?

Accords and Preludes have always been pretty similar in terms of mechanicals.

One thing to keep in mind about the latest versions of things based off the "Accord" platform is that it's actually this thing called a global midsize architecture. Even though it's supposedly the same thing in all these different cars (three versions of Accord sedan including the TSX, the USDM Accord coupe, Odyssey/Lagreat, Pilot and MDX) Honda is able to change things up like wheelbase and track to create different sized vehicles from essentially the same parts bin.

Oh and the 6th gen Accord was built on an older version of this global midsize architecture, while the 5th gen Prelude was built on an evolution of the 4th gen Prelude which shared most of its parts with the 5th gen Accord.

It will most likely be something as much as a "truck" as a CRV is.

The Japanese aren't so known for making full blown trucks. The biggest best pickup from the Japanese is the Toyota Tundra. Hondas not a big fan of big engines so no V8 for this pickup, they are pretty much always unibody, so this might be one strange looking truck because how the hell do you have a unibody pickup? Anyway its sure to be probably more sporty vehicle with a bed than a real pick up.
