Default athalon 64 processor/mobo combo

how do the prices of the new amd processors compare to the p4s? I'm thinking of building a computer this summer, and I'm pondering which processor will be better for me...

the athlon 64 won't be worth your while until a 64 bit OS comes out. go with a P4 or a barton 2500 AMd chip

I'd go with a P4. Just better quality.

It's a bit more expensive in comparison to amd, but it's a quality product. I've seen more amd chips fail and replaced than any other pc part.

I think I might go dual 2.8GHz sometime next year with 4-8 GB of DDR RAM

in that case, by the third quarter intel is slated to realease it's next generation of p4 chips with a 90nm process, improved hyperthreading technology, 1mb of l2 cache and a 1066mz system bus at 3.8ghz. all this on the new socket-t platform.

too expensive considering AMD kicks Intels ass in all the benchmarks using chips that are half the price
