I wonder if when most people say something about the Athlon outperforming an Intel chip, they mean to say, "...for a given amount of money"?

yeah.. they really need to hurry along since longhorn isn't slated for release until late 05, early 06

wintel isn't gonna be broken up... wintel has been going on since the first pentium chips came out.. not gonna stop when intel is producing a better quality product.

The K7 with 10 datapaths has been outdoing Pentiums with 8 just for the shear fact they can process more per clock cycle, holmes.

not to mention the k7 popps off like a firecracker from heat running simple processes where the pentium does not. we're talking about reliable components

Ive never had a problem with an AMD chip. Perhaps you don't build reliable PC's yourself? :dunno:

I think its more a matter of people defending the product they wasted their money on.

Blackmagic is obviously a die hard Intel fan and won't be chnged since he will find any information that backs his view and his view only.

sxecrow will do the same except for AMD.

like I said I use both and I see more bang for my buck out of my AMD system than I do with my Intel based systems. I do a lot of art and video and noticed the AMD (1.3 ghz) processes the information smoother and with less slow downs than even my Intel P4 does (2.2 ghz).

Not saying the systems are even close to identical in their build but I am just pointing out what I see in real time application and not in some stupid ass benchmark test that really means nothing to most people.

Anyone can run benchmark tests and they may come back good or bad....doesn't mean it runs my particular applictions any better.

Perfect. If you run a server, you want a pentium just for the shear fact it can crunch numbers like a mofo. I'll totally agree to that. For mulitimedia and heavy video demanding applications, you can't beat an AMD chip. When it boils down to buying one or the other, I prefer AMD. My personal web/file server at home is a dual pentium 3 eb coppermind box, but my personal gaming PC is an AMD.
