Subwoofer Question?
Lets see here...say you want to spend $350 max for sub + box and say you want to push the sub with about 500 watts of power RMS.
First, lets change out your amp for one of these:
US Accoustics USX2150 450x1 into four ohms, and come highly recommended from the car audio sites.
If you still want a little more power, you can go with one of these:
JBL 600.1. It is a monoblock amp, and again, has rave reviews. You can also bump up to the 1200.1 and still be way under the cost of the Polk.
As for the Drivers, it all depends on the amp that you choose. It is better to choose the driver first than find an amp to fit. My personal suggestion is this:
Elemental Designs E12O. If you go with the US Accoustics amp, go with the E12O.14 or if you go with the JBL get the E12O.44. One is SVC, one is DVC. No difference in SQ, just flexibility in power options.
I have heard good things about the Adire Audio Shiva which would require the JBL 1200.1 amp, and you would need to wire the Shiva into a 4 ohm load.
Other good companies would be Image Dynamics, Resonant Engineering and the Stryke AV 12.
