Default Traffic Court violation...Outcome!

I got a couple tickets about a month ago, and I have a court date tomorrow morning at 9:30. I've never been to court before, and I'm kinda nervous.

I got pulled over for expired inspection, and improper exhaust.

Do I need to dress up? Do I need to take anything?

What do I say? Do I tell him I have an aftermarket exhaust? Any excuses come to mind?

I'm kinda skeered....not someone who like law officials.

Any advice would be appreciated.

just dress in say khakis and a polo shirt or long sleeved shirt with no tie.

when you get their you can usually talk with a representing officer from the town you got the ticket in. obviuosly you can't win the inspection thing, but ask him to drop the exhaust thing. if you have a namebrand catback this should be easier, but if you got some generic muffler that is loud as hell you'll lose.

Q. Do I need to dress up?

A. YES. dress as nice as you can. if you don't have a suit, wear a shirt and tie. Judges like it when you respect their authority.

Q. What do I say? Do I tell him I have an aftermarket exhaust? Any excuses come to mind?

A. if you can prove that your exhaust was legal, then go for it with proper documentation. if you can't ... just say you didn't know and tell them you had it removed. you WILL need a receipt from a shop stating that the exhaust was removed.

Aight, I'll dress nicely then.

I have a Thermal Classic cat-back. I have no receipt for it, but it is supposed to be under 92db. Do I HAVE to remove my exhaust..or can I just get a shop to print me out a receipt?

Keep the comment coming!

i would not suggest wearing a suit, a judge see's this as a form of ass kissing. just look nice and don't overdo it, nobody else will be wearing a suit.

well a thermal r&d setup is loud as hell, your kinda screwed. if the law is about db level make them prove it otherwise your are screwed. this is reason why quiet exhausts/50 state legal certified ones are nice.

Simplest thing to do is plead guilty. Traffic court judges almost always reduce whatever your sentence is if you actually bother to show up. Making excuses and such just gets on their nerves.

you could do that, but if you get busted again for the same violation ... you're fuxored.

like i said, if you know you're wrong, have the exhaust removed, then show proof that it was removed ... i'm not sure what else the judge will tell you. In most of the illegal modification cases, they will tell you to take it off and come back in X amount of days with a receipt.

Its true, simply fighting any ticket will help your cause. As will dressing nice. Ive gotten off of all 15, yes 15! moving violations that i have fought. I go in dressed in some nice dress pants, a button down, a TIE, and dress shoes. Most of the other people dress like shlubs, so you will be one step ahead as far as respectability. If you have any documentation that states that your exhasut is legal, such as a warrenty card or something to that effect, bring it.

Act respectful, be sure so say "yes sir" "no sir" and all that junk. Believe me, I ve had a lot of practice at this stuff, but it was always for speeding, never mods. Good luck.

Take some KY and before the judge says anything, drop your pants, bend over and show him your ready to take it.
