Luckily, we got $1k of outside funding for our project, and he promised us another $500-1k.
Be careful about outside sources. My best friends group got raped because they were being sponsored by Allegheny power and then about 6 weeks into SD 1 they decided to not sponsor them anymore.

We already have the money. A guy in my group's mom needed a tax write off, so she donated us $1k.

Unfortunately, I don't think it's gonna be enough for us even.

Yikes...

You might already know these but here are some tips...

Most companies offer free samples, take them. For instance Microchip who makes the PIC chips has freebies and thats where we got out PICs from. They are generally $15 a piece.

Jameco, All electronics are the best places to buy stuff. They have cheaper rates for bulk orders.

Well, we need an engine. We have a borrowed engine for the first part of our project...but for the 2nd semester, we're gonna need one we can keep. Hayabusa motors are not cheap

Try junkyards, you might be able to rebuild one yourself. Or call the bigshots and tell them you are doing this as a project and see if they'll give you a better deal.

We've tried...cheapest we found for a complete engine was $3000 so far.

Guess you guys are gonna do some funding yourself like we are. Good luck, I know I am gonna pass out when my next cc bill comes in. Hopefully I can get some of the money back.

No..if we don't get outside funding, we'll have to settle for something else. The hayabusa motor is for our advisor's wet dream.
