I'm thinking about getting this. Do you think it's too big?

Thats a lot of money for a TV. Consider that most every show on TV is horrible.

But most movies are equally horrible as TV. As for video games I dunno.

I'm pretty sure if I say anything positive you're going to find something crappy about it. Lighten up. He will derive many hours of enjoyment from his new TV. That's why he wants it.

They've also got a 32" Wega package that includes a Sony 100Watt x 5 Home Theatre System with 5disc DVD Changer and 100Watt Subwoofer. All for $1100.

I was just leaning towards HDTV since thats the next big wave. Plus being that I work for a cable provider, they have recently started offering channels offered in HDTV format as long as you have their digital box.

Those all-in-one home theater packages aren't really worth it. You get some rinky-dink speakers and a bottom of the line receiver.

You'd produce a much nicer system buying the tv separate and if you want to save money on the stereo end of things then get quality components and speakers but skip the surround sound. I have just a nice Sony DVD and receiver and two Infinity Reference-series speakers on some stands that put them level with my tv. Does great with pretty much any source material.

The package I was talking about is one that is offered on our Employee Purchase Plan. Sorry..I may have misworded my thread. Here's the 32" Wega. .

And here's the home theatre package included with their offer to us. Check it out.

Our price for both is $1100. And that's a nice home theatre setup.

Those speakers are trash. I'd get something along these lines.

Receiver: http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.js...rk_0&oid=69792
DVD: http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.js...rk_0&oid=71462
Speakers: http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.js...k_14&oid=51511
Sub: http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.js...rk_6&oid=37963

My Infinitys (the old kind with silk tweeters, the ceramic ones on the newer ones are crap) on stands and placed properly produce more than enough bass for movies with the bass boost on the receiver turned on. So I don't have a sub.

Surround sound is overrated imho. With good spacing of two speakers you can produce a very nice sound field.
