Default Sponsorship

Obviously i wouldnt get my car sponsored, because itz as stock as u can get. But what does it take to get sponsored? Are there certain requirements to get sponsored? If I "trick" my car out myself, how will a company sponsor it? Do you have to use only their parts? How do u get known by a company? The only reason y im asking is because my cousin asked me the same thing, because hes gettin an RSX, and he wants to put some money into it. He's an amateur skateboarder, and wants to get sponsored for that too, but im sure itz different between getting sponsored for skating and racing.

You have to either compete in car shows or some form of racing. Most companies don't mind if you have other parts on the car as long as you have some of theirs. Like for example if you have Falken tires then it's not like those are the only parts you can put on your car.

Usually the way you get sponsored is to go to a company and say, "hey look, I have your parts and I'm doing these car-related events, I think I can get you guys exposure, blah blah blah."

im just pulling common sense out my ass but:

to get sponsorship, you want to stand out in a crowd. you want to be the fastest...the show-iest...or the most whatever-ist. then you can go to a company and say...hey, my car gets attention. if you sport a banner on my car, your company will get attention too. i will sport the banner if you do give me a discount on parts....or whatever.

then of course there are probably high expectations after you get sponsored. :dunno:

It's really not as much of a deal as some people make it out to be. Plenty of people on very local levels such as SCCA Solo II auto-x have a few sponsorships. All they have to do is put the decal(s) on the car for race day.

You're also not limited only to parts manufacturers or even automotive-related companies.

To get sponsored in the show area you have to compete at large shows, they dont really care if you go to the little shows because there isnt much exposure. your car must definately stand out in a crowd. cant be considered "just another Honda" Once you do become sponsored they give you a list of events to appear at in your area. You have to go to these shows. I heard about someone who missed a show because of a family members wedding and the sponsor came and took the Items they supplied right off the car. Its a very serious business. It is basically considered another Job.

Yeah the show sponsorship stuff is taken a bit more seriously than the grassroots-level racing sponsorship stuff.
