Thanks for the insightful responses everyone, I'm glad there are people on this board to actually take the time and respond.
Drumsy: thats awesome man! I'm not simply saying that because we share views...its just that when i hear success stories from people who do share my views it inspires me.
I always say: "You can do a lot with a little, as long as you know what you want and budget, organize and plan ahead."
I'm not saying everyone who is telling me to go to school is wrong cause they're not. A college degree significantly boosts (:chuckles: boost ) the rate in which you will reach a greater success but doesn't define it. But as stated earlier, college isn't for everyone, and quite frankly I don't believe its for me. Its getting the rents and family to understand that and embrace my passions rather than dispose the idea and attempt to drill my head with pursuasions of images if I don't go to school.
more replys are so so welcome...please. Theres still so many people on this board I am looking forward to listening to their repsonses to this thread. I don't want to say who they are right now, everyone probably knows anyways.
Thanks again.
1.) Did you or did you not go to school? Yes, but right after highschool it was a disaster for me. I dropped out within 3 semesters. I was forced to go. Because my mom went, my brother went, and my sister went. I wasn't ready, though. No one can tell YOU when YOU'RE going to be ready. Now, I'm 24, and I've finally realised what I want from life, so I've set out to obtain it by going back to college.
2.) If not, are you happy with your decision? If so, was it worth it? See above. At first I was happy with not going... but I didn't want to be running web conferences, or looking up people who don't pay their bills for the rest of my life.
3.) Would you change whatever your decision was (go to school/not go to scool) now that you are in the "real life" working? After being in a real world job, I've made the desicion to go back.
4.) For those that didn't finish college, what types of careers are you pursuing? Are you satisfied with the success you've attained/ income level/ quality of life? I've answered these.

1.) Went to college. Graduated.
2.) I probably should have gone to a state university instead of a private college mainly because of the price. Private college is for people richer than me.
3.) I think college is a good idea for most people. Most jobs I see availabe want people with a 4 year degree and 3+ years of experience. Because the job market it so competitive, employers can afford to hire people that are overqualified and pay them entry-level salary so basically the people that are barely qualified are SOL.
However, some people have that kind of personality that is just successful almost everywhere and learn quickly. So if they start a job after high school they will likely move up rapidly. But it depends on what field you want to enter. Many require degrees.

There is no guarantee now days to getting a nice job once completing college. After I grad high school I moved to VA and didn't know anyone. I ended up working full time and taking part time classes at a local community college. I ended up dropping that and just working full time and started studying computers and pursued Certifications. I have yet to obtain any degree or certification but have obtained jobs from experience and knowledge from everything I've learned on hands and thru other jobs. I'm 24years old and have a job that pays nearly 40k. That's pretty good for someone my age with no degree and in this area. I know many friends and even my bro who went the college route and they couldn't get jobs or couldn't get jobs that would pay them over 12$/hour. The job market is really tough out there.
If I could go back and do it all differently I probaly would have. I worked full time after high school because I was dumb and wasted all my money on my cars and hooking them up. This really set me back. You should finish college if you can and then come out with your head straight. You may not get the best job when you get out but just stay committed to a company you like or even do some internships while in school.

I graduated HS in 1999 with a 2.0 GPA. I thought I knew everything there was to know and decided college wasn't an option for me. I worked odd jobs for 1.5 years and then realized that I was never going to amount to anything unless I got my act into gear and went to college.
I started college in Summer 2000 and will hopefully graduate this December. Would I change anything? Yes I should have been more diligent in school and would have graduated in 1998 instead of 1999. I should have started college right away and would be in graduate school by now. Do I regret those decisions, no because I have learnt a lot from taking that 1.5 years off.

Thanks again for the replies. Anyone else :dunno:
Since this thread was first posted I have gotten few of my concerns straightened out, and am striving more and more to try at least to finish college. So lets hope all goes well.

you are right in saying most of the people that graduate with a degree do not end up doing what they got the degree in.
In my case I chose not to go to law school. Yes chose as I was already in.
But I will say that my first job I probably would not have gotten if I didn't have a college degree.
as shitty as that job was.

I went to school, got an associate's degree in CIS, but went $9k+ in debt... couldn't find work in the field...
now I'm in the Navy, at school to be a Nuclear Machinist's Mate (air craft carrier reactor mechanic)... making less than 1/4 what I made before, but I guess that's the sacrifice one makes for stability...
Anyway, as far as my decision to go to school, I wish I would have not gone to school to begin with, because I would be much more successful at school now (not having gone 3 years without any math, etc.) and I would be further along the path of success, or at least that much closer to getting out so the Navy can pay for school...
