Default B16 Build-up

Well, I finally came to a decision, with the help of the guys at RLZ Engineering, on what to do about my hydrolocked B16A2.

They told me there was a 95% chance of some valves being bent, so a rebuilt valvetrain with Ferrea valves and titanium springs and retainers are going in. They had a set of JDM rods laying around and some B16B over-size pistons, along with a stock crank. I'm building for reliabilty so forged pistons are out.

The head will be ported and polished and milled to yield a compression ratio of 11:1. I'm also going getting a Quaffe(?) LSD.

When I get some more money a set of cams and an AEM EMS are going inas well.

What do you guys think?

Check out their site at www.hondaraceengines.com. They have some awesome vids of their race car running at the track. 11.3@127mph!!!

and I thought it wasn't an LSD, it's an ATB differential. :fawk:

That's what I originally thought, but forged pistons are denser so they expand more when they get hot. For this reason you have to run looser clearences, so until your pistons heat up they scratch the cylinder walls, significantly reducing engine life. That's also why they are noisier until they heat up. RLZ estimated at about 30K miles I would be burning oil.

You basically only need forged pistons when you're running a lot of boost. Otherwise there are so many different OEM Honda pistons that interchange so you can usually find something to give the desired CR or close to it.

Werd, Mr. Fatbooty.

BTW, has anyone built an engine similar to this?

What kind of power do you guys think this will put down?
