Default SUV + Tailgating = Stupidity

I'm driving home tonight and I'm talking to my girlfriend on my handsfree. I get into the left hand lane to pass a slow moving 18 wheeler in the right lane. In front of me darts a new, black, GMC SUV who doesn't bother to use his turn signal. I jam on the brakes and shake my head in distaste.

After we get around the 18 wheeler I hit my right turn signal and get back into the right lane. Of course Mr. Too Cool GMC SUV driver is pissed because I got over before him. So he leaps back into the right hand lane and slams on the gas. He's now so close to my bumper that I can't see pavement or scenery in my rear view mirror. All I can see is SUV. He's having a grand old time "teaching me a lesson" for getting back into the right hand lane before him. Or maybe he's got turn signal envy? None the less I have had it and I slide my right foot across the gas pedal and mash the brakes. Suddenly his ear-to-ear grin turns into a panic as his chrome grilled SUV struggles to maintain traction. His SUV swings wildly to the left and right before he decides he's going to pass me on the right hand shoulder. I didn't even downshift into a lower gear. I simply shook my head and continued on my journey home.

His lady friend riding shotgun was furious with him. She was screaming and yelling at him. She was actually so upset she got out of the passenger seat and buckled herself into the rear seat. But this egghead wouldn't stop there. No, he had to follow my every move on my way home (all the while not using his turn signals). My exit arrived and I calmly downshifted and took my time. Naturally he followed my every turn. Finally I reached some back roads where I downshifted to some lower gears and chewed up some asphalt. Obviously he wasn't able to keep up. Therefore, his tracking came to an end.

People driving large vehicles need to take into consideration that their braking distance isn't as great as they're family car. So, don't tailgate. Period. It's as simple as that. If you want to pull the tailgating game at 30 or 40 mph, great! But when you play the game at 70 or 80 mph, the law of physics isn't going to be on your side.

 over.

I'd be scared to do something similar. You don't know if they would actually slam into you. h:

When people tailgate me.. I keep my foot on the gas, but tap the break lightly so just the lights come on... Their reaction is always so priceless

...yeah but my only concern with that is what good is a new car if I can't walk?

I normally give taligators the three hazard flash warning. If you don't back off after the third flash, then don't be alarmed when I mash the brakes.
