save yourself some money and get a 92-95 civic EX lip. Fits perfectly, and looks great

plus, its OEM goodness. And you can probably find one fairly cheap. (beats $400+ for a kit plus paintjob)

where might one go about looking for this lip? other then from dealer

You should not "don't really mind having unpainted body parts" on your car. It's really tacky and I think you should just do it right and save up your money and do it at once. Set goals and work towards them..

Having an unpainted kit on a car could be a good thing. If you drive on it for a while, you get the feel on how it is to drive a car with a lower front bumper. Even if you scratch/scrape it, it won't be as heartbreaking as if it was a painted bumper. I drove around for about a week with an unpainted front bumper just so I knew how to handle ramps, driveways, dips, etc...
